Serving Wine

So what makes The Riverhead so special?

The Riverhead’s liquor licence was granted in 1857 which makes it New Zealand’s second oldest licenced premises and there are great stories to tell about this place. It sits on the upper reaches of the Waitemata and has a dock which allows charter boats, jet boats and private boats to visit from central Auckland. Coupled with this it is only 25 minutes by car away from the central city on one of the most pleasant rural routes surrounded by rolling New Zealand countryside. It is the kind of place that people just love to come, relax and spend time.

The Riverhead is more than just another Tavern.

It is a very special part of Riverhead, Northwest Auckland and indeed the whole of New Zealand. It has a history we all can be proud of and some history which makes it even more colourful. You would be required to learn a little of this history if you are successful in getting a position here as part of your job requirement.

The Riverhead has three distinctly different areas:

WineThe Landing a lounge bar & restaurant with extensive decks overlooking the upper harbour. Good fresh kiwi food is served to our guests with an extensive wine list and cocktails, a select range of beers and excellent coffee. We also provide takeaways.

It is also home for Deacon’s Kitchen a private room which is excellent for groups of up to 25. Just the right size for Nana’s birthday party, a business meeting that needs audio visual equipment, or keeping the kids occupied during morning brunch.

The Portage Bar a relaxed informal sports bar, that serves good beers and bar food. It now has a beer garden, a large screen for watching sport, pool tables for the casual or competition player, a gaming room and TAB.

The Boat House a larger function room that has wide opening doors leading on to oak shaded decks and our extensive lawn. This area is so versatile its uses are up to the imagination… family functions, weddings, 21sts, large corporate events, the destination for special interest & community events, live music gigs, film evenings – the list goes on and on.
